50's ADELE SIMPSON SILK DAMASK SARONG FRONT DRESS

Coty Award winner, Adele Simpson, is one of the twentieth century's most famous ready to wear designers.

She designed for women who were often in the public eye and needed a classic, sophisticated, elegant look. Many first ladies wore her clothing.

She had a knack for knowing how to interpret trends into what she described as more "realistic" fashion, creating feminine, flattering, well constructed outfits from fine quality fabrics.

This late 50's/early 60's fitted cocktail dress is a lovely example of her dressier evening wear. The fabric is a silk satin damask with a floral motif.

Kimono style bodice with caplike sleeves and underarm gussets.
Scooped neckline.
Waist and bust darts.

Straight skirt has overlapping panel on front with sarong like draping and pleating on left side.
Attached matching fabric belt snaps at left waistline beneath three little decorative bow like fabric loops.

There is a side slit at right seam, behind front panel, for ease of movement.
Skirt is lined in silk organza.
Back metal zipper closure.

Label reads "Adele Simpson"
