50's NETTIE ROSENSTEIN BLACK SHANTUNG NEW LOOK DRESS
Nettie Rosentstein is credited for being the originator of the "little black dress." In 1937 Life Magazine called her one of America's most revered designers. She won the Coty award in 1947 and designed Mamie Eisenhauer's inaugural gown. She is quoted as saying "What you leave off a dress is what makes it smart."
Gorgeous drapey, lightweight black silk shantung late day/evening dress from the early 1950's is typical of the feminine, figure flattering clothing she designed.
Sweetheart style neckline trimmed in delicate point d'esprit.
Caplike sleeves are pulled in on each side, the gathering accentuating the bust area.

Full, flared bias cut circle skirt.
Hemline edged in point d'esprit.
Dress is unlined.
Side metal zipper closure.
Original belt is missing.
