50's SARI SILK COCKTAIL DRESS/COAT ENSEMBLE
This sophisticated 50's cocktail dress and coat ensemble comes from the estate of a woman who's husband was a diplomat for the United States goverment. Many of her clothes were specially made for her by Harilela's Custom Tailors in Hong Kong.
A family originally from Pakistan, the Harilela's were at one time the largest importer of textiles in Hong Kong. Because of their impeccably honest business dealings with the U.S. and British military, they became their main supplier. They're still in business today, but have expanded their empire to include luxury hotels, real estate and banking.
The outfit is very chic, in an beautiful irridescent sari silk. Swirling floral and leaf designs in shades of deep lavender change to teal in the light, shimmering against a pink background.
