60's JACKIE O STRAPLESS PINK SILK DAMASK GOWN
Exquisite vintage formal gown, circa 1961, is a sophisticated glamorous look for a prom or wedding.
The woman who owned this dress purchased it at Bergdorf Goodman to wear to a ball in Moscow, where she and her husband, who was a military attache, were stationed. She was told at the store that the dress was a copy of one worn by Jacqueline Kennedy, who had many of her outfits custom made there.
The fabric is a satiny soft pale pink silk damask, with orchid pink chrysanthemum flowers.
The strapless bodice has a lined double layer front and side boning.
The full skirt has pleating at the waist, except for the middle where there is an inset panel.
Attached to the full length of the panel is a pink taffeta lining, creating a slim column skirt beneath. A skilled seamstress could easily remove this to allow more room for movement or to accomodate a larger hip size.
The silk damask is lined in silk organza and a pink gauze type fabric. There is tulle netting attached on either side of the waistline to give the skirt some fullness.
Label reads "Miss Bergdorf, Bergdorf Goodman, New York"
