Was recently visiting the Vintage Fashion Guild Blog and found a post about a recent Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia Auction that included many items originally owned by Marilyn Monroe.
Wish I had known about it sooner. Then I would have had a chance to bid on this lovely cocktail dress. After all, it went for only a measly $11,000.00! I always say, you can never have too many little black dresses, especially ones worn by famous sex goddess movie stars.
Then, of course, there was also the matching shoes and bag that I missed out on for only $1800.00.
Check out Bonham’s site to see the ending bids of other Marilyn memorabilia, including a $2250.00 ending bid for the Western Costume shipping sheet that lists the gown and shoes she wore when she sang happy birthday to JFK and the receipt showing she purchased five $1000.00 tickets to the party. I wasn’t able to link directly to the completed auctions, but you can search their site for past sales on December 9, 2007 to see all results. It’s actually pretty interesting to see the amount of money collectors are willing to part with in order to own anything attributed to the most famous actress of all time.
