The world recently lost an exceptionally unique and talented artistic personality. Tasha Tudor, famous childrens' book illustrator, died on June 18 at age 92, and left behind a legacy that will forever touch the hearts of generations to come. Her enchanting books have always been a delight for children and adults alike, with their whimsical depictions of flowers, children and animals and romantic rural settings.
According to a NY Times article , she preferred living a life immersed in the 1800's, frequently claiming she was the reincarnation of a sea captain's wife from that era, and her nostalgic illustrations reflected the life she led. She was an independent, free spirit, rejecting the modern way of life, even dressing regularly in 19th century clothing. She lived on her farm, surrounded by nature, wildlife and beautiful gardens.
Here's a great quote from her that I really enjoy,
“Why do women want to dress like men
when they’re fortunate enough to be women? Why lose femininity, which is
one of our greatest charms? We get more accomplished by being charming
than we would be flaunting around in pants and smoking. I’m very fond
of men. I think they are wonderful creatures. I love them dearly. But I
don’t want to look like one. When women gave up their long skirts, they
made a grave error…"

She also amassed quite a collection of antique clothing in her lifetime, beginning her collecting at the age of 9. Recently 500 pieces were auctioned by Whitaker-Augusta Auction Co.
