I’m Ba-a-a-a-ck! New Arrivals at Blue Velvet Vintage

Well, it’s back to work. Not that I wasn’t working while I was away. You think it’s easy searching high and low for fabulous vintage stock to sell? Hell no! Every year it gets tougher and tougher. Not only are there many dealers out there competing for the same good stuff, but a lot of the big fashion designers(not mentioning any names) send out their minions to gather up vintage clothing so they can use it for inspiration in future collections. That leaves less for the rest of us who just want to wear cool one of a kind fashions.

So, what’s a vintage loving dame supposed to do? Well luckily all this re-creating and inspiring going on means we can have new fashions that capture the vintage looks we all love. Even if it is not the real deal from whatever time period. At least with the new fashions you have more of a choice in sizes, colors, etc. Though it is always the utmost thrill to find that one perfect authentic vintage outfit that no one else will ever have. It’s also nice that there are so many more options out there these days for being able to pull off a vintage look, even if you don’t have authentic. And you know us dames, we love our options!

So, without further ado, here are some of latest vintage inspired evening gowns that were just added to the site.  The holidays will be upon us before you know it. And we want you to have a great selection to choose from. So we’re working  fast and furiously to get our new stock listed.

Two of my favorite styles, classic mermaid gowns that remind me of Old Hollywood movie actresses and floaty goddess gowns, a timeless style that has been reinterpreted throughout the ages. With their fluid fabric, draping, pleating and ruching they’re the ultimate in femininity and elegance.

1940’s Fashion Video

This is a fun video showcasing 40’s rayon fashions.  The ladies spend the day at "the club" wearing the cutest sundresses and playsuits, then later change into some fabulous evening gowns.  There’s even a great closeup of the coolest pair of black and white wedge sandals that I’ve ever seen.

You’ll also get a kick out of how easily one woman manipulates her boyfriend into giving her an engagement ring. I guess maybe men were more gullible back then!

Heirloom Vintage Wedding Cake Toppers

June is the traditional month for tying the knot, so I thought I’d feature some wedding related vintage goodies.  I just happened to stumble upon this spectacular collection  of restored and redesigned vintage wedding cake toppers from a company called Gulden and Brown.    The perfect touch to a vintage themed wedding, these beautiful recreations are sure to be a treasured memento of that special day.

This cupie doll 1920’s cake topper is, without a doubt,  one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen!  Meticulously embellished with tulle, venetian lace, pearls and organza. The porcelain bride and groom are wearing their original chemise and tuxedo.

1940’s Hollywood glamour from the Coast Novelty Co. of Venice, California, meticulously decorated with hand cut embossed velvet flowers, corded sequins and pearls.

There are several other heirloom quality toppers, including one in a magnificient gothic style. Unfortunately I was not able to copy the picture of that one.  This website also offers stunning vintage wedding gowns and accessories.
