To work off the massive amount of food we ate on Thanksgiving, my husband and I decided to head on over to Tampa this past weekend to check out the weekly swing dance at the Grand Ballroom of the Centro Asturiano . This one had a 50s Sock Hop theme and featured a fantastic live band called Freight Train Annie .
If you’ve never tried swing dancing before, you don’t know what you’re missing! No matter where we go to dance we always meet happy, fun loving people, never mind the great aerobic benefits. This type of dancing is quite the workout and way more fun than going to the gym.
Here’s a picture of the outside of the Centro Asturiano. It was built in 1914.
If you’re in the area or planning a visit, I highly recommend it for a fun night out. The nice people responsible for holding these dances even give free lessons from 7-8pm. Plus the dance is right down the street from where all the action is in historic Ybor City, Tampa’s trendy Latin quarter. There you’ll find great shopping, restaurants and nightlife.
Visit the Swing Centro website for more information about upcoming swing dance events.
