Blue Velvet Vintage-Sneak Previews

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Happy New Year, everyone!  Hope you all had a great holiday season and are ready for some fabulous new vintage oufits for the new year.  I’m sooo excited that dresses are still going to be a big trend in 2008, especially lacey and ruffled feminine looks, bright floral prints and maxi styles.  Of course, all of us vintage loving gals never tire of dresses and looking like a lady, no matter what the current fashion!  We’ll just have more choices this year, as beautiful vintage inspired dresses for spring/summer 08 were all over the runways.

So now that all of the holiday madness is behind us,  I’ve been working fast and furiously photographing tons of pretty vintage dresses that will be perfect for next season.   Here’s a sneak preview of a small sampling of the ladylike lovelies that will be going up on the site shortly.

Vintage Glamour Alert-Red sequined evening gown

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Red is one of my favorite colors, especially for evening wear, as it definitely makes you stand out from the crowd.  And, of course, Christmas and New Year’s is a perfect time of year to wear a glamorous crimson or scarlet vintage frock to a fancy holiday event.

Here’s a 50s red crepe empire waist gown offered at Woodland Farm Vintage.  Love the assymetrical sequined pattern on the bodice and the sarong like gathering on the left side of the skirt.  And at $225.00, it’s a very reasonable price for such a stunning special occasion dress.

Vintage Glamour Alert-Ceil Chapman Golden Beauty

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Here’s a smashing 50’s  party dress I found over at Past Perfect Vintage,  that would be perfect for a special New Year’s event.  Created by Ceil Chapman, who was one of Marilyn Monroe’s favorite designers.   Shimmery beaded, sequined and draped bodice and floaty golden silk chiffon skirt. Ooo-lala!

Vintage Glamour Alert-Draped Red Velvet Cocktail Dress

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Just came across this exquisite 1950’s shapley red velvet cocktail dress with Ceil Chapman type draping.  It’s common to find black velvet vintage dresses, but red ones are few and far between. Especially ones that are this classy! Would make serious impact at any holiday event.

For sale at Hemlock Vintage, this dress is lovely representation of the types of glamourous vintage clothing they offer.

Found this spectacular 60’s dress for sale at  Dorothea’s Closet .  Angie always has a fab selection of "knock em dead"  glamour dresses and this one is no exception!  The gorgeous red color is perfect for upcoming holiday parties.  Sexy one shoulder style with chiffon wrap front and long flowing panel in back, highlighted by a shimmery gold border, adds a hint of Roman goddess to the shapely silhouette.  Measurements are 36-26-40.

Introducing the “Satin Doll” 50’s Style Party Dresses

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

I’m so excited. The latest additon to my vintage reproduction dress line  has just arrived.  After months of tweaking the pattern and several samples later,  I’m totally thrilled with how they finally turned out.

The 50’s inspired halter style swing dress has been created in two colors, a  beautifu gold floral embroideredl black duchess satin with gold piping trim and a red on red metallic embroidered satin with black velvet piping trim.  I think the piping really accents the dresses nicely. I’ve also designed the halter straps to have pleating to add a little extra interest at the neckline.

The name of this style is the "Satin Doll" after one of my favorite big band tunes. These will be great for holiday parties and dances.

As usual, the construction of these garments is top notch and they’re made right here in the good old USA!

Orange Appeal

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Orange is the first color that comes to mind when you think of Halloween and the autumn season in general.  So I thought I’d show some cute vintage dresses featuring this fiery fall color.   It’s a bold shade that’s impossible to feel ambivalent about. You either absolutely love it or hate it. Of course, there are the safe variations,  like cinnamon, pumpkin and peach that are not such a big fashion risk.  But stepping out in a neon bright, tangerine outfit is a completely different story all together.  It takes some serious fashion confidence to pull it off.

Clothing in bright "Halloween" orange is not seen that often in current fashion.   But if you truly adore it, you can usually count on finding it in vintage clothing from the 60s and 70s, as it was a very hot color back then.  And if you’re just not ready to take the complete plunge into orange madness, why not at least try something that has it has an accent? It really sets off darker colors quite nicely!

Here’s a striking 70s mod dress from Smokydiva  with great loops and lacing detail.

My Red Carpet Look-a-like Gown

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Ran across this blog post from McKenzie Sala, owner of Kenzie Kate , a website selling some of the most classically beautiful wedding invitations I’ve ever seen.  It appears she discovered one of the dresses on my website is almost a dead ringer for the one Debra Messing wore to Emmy’s this year and was nice enough to post it on her Something Old, Something New  blog, that naturally covers everything wedding and bridal related.

Pretty darn close, I’d say.  If you check out the dress on my website you’ll see it also has three black satin bows attached in back, which I think add a nice touch. Oh and it also has a train as well.  A big thanks to McKenzie for the post!
