60's OLEG CASSINI BROCADE COCKTAIL DRESS/JACKET SET

In the early 1960's Jacqueline Kennedy chose Oleg Cassini to be her personal couturier. She is rumored to have told him she wanted to be dressed as if her husband was the president of France. He is is directly responsible for creating her distinctively chic signature look. A style embraced by women the world over, making her one of the most famous fashion icons of our time.
But before his rise to fame as the favored designer of the Mrs. Kennedy, he worked for Edith Head as a costumer for Hollywood movies. Many famous actresses wore his designs, including his wife, the gorgeous, glamorous, Gene Tierney.
This elegant 60's cocktail dress and jacket set is a stunning example of the polished, feminine style that captivated the First Lady. The exotic border print silk matelasse brocade fabric is reminiscent of Indian saris, with its black, teal and metallic silver paisley design.
The form fitting cocktail dress has spaghetti straps and boning in the bodice for support.
The pencil style skirt has no back kick pleat.
There are four tiny pleats at waistline.
Dress closes with an off center back metal zipper.
Slightly fitted jacket with jewel neckline, princess seaming and cropped 3/4 sleeves.
Closes off center with large metal snaps.
Decorative bow attached at center waist.
Both pieces are lined with black silk.
Jacket lining has been sewn in by hand and a chain weight handstitched along the inside back hem.

This outfit is in excellent condition, except a previous owner made some alterations to the dress. Looks like the bodice was shortened, side seams of skirt were taken in and then let out and the skirt has been shortened a bit. None of this affects the beauty or wearability of this lovely collectible outfit.
