Recently I attended a Renninger’s Antique Extravaganza in Mt Dora, Florida. If you ever find yourself visiting the "Sunshine State" in November, January or February, you mustn’t miss a stop at one of these fun three day events. It’s Disney World for the collector of all things retro, antique and vintage.
Mt. Dora is a picturesque lakeside town about 30 miles west of Orlando. With streets lined in stately live oaks and quaint 1920s bungalow style cottages, it still retains its "old Florida" charm. The downtown area hosts a miriad of unique little shops, restaurants and lovely B & B’s. Just a few minutes away, on Hwy 441, is the field where they hold one of the largest antique flea markets in Florida.
Three time a year over 1000 dealers get together for the weekend to sell all kinds of collectibles from the Victorian era up to the mid-twentieth century. Most of it is held outdoors, but there are also three large buildings chock full of interesting things as well. It is truly a vintage treasure hunter’s dream come true, with some serious bargains to be had. Don’t forget to try the smoked barbeque turkey sandwiches offered at the food concessions. They’re delicious and you’re bound to work up quite the appetite rummaging through the all the piles of stuff.
Here are pictures of some of the goodies I picked up on my recent trip.
Over 50 pieces of vintage costume jewelry in pristine condition for under $100.00. I was so excited when I found these, as I love putting free gifts in with the packages I send my customers. A cute little vintage brooch or pair of earrings that match the purchased outfit will be perfect!
Check out these gorgeous shoes from the 1930’s. Unfortunately they’re too big for me. So they’ll be listed on my site eventually.
These adorable 50’s baby doll pumps do fit me, so I’m very tempted to keep for myself! Not that I really need yet ANOTHER pair of vintage shoes. We’ll see.
