Just attended the Roaring Twenties Lawn Party at the Crane Estate in Ipswich, Ma. This is one of my favorite events. You can read about previous visits here and here. It’s always fun, with great music, dancing, vintage vendors, wine and beer garden, picnics, lawn games, car rides in vintage autos and great people watching!
So this year I decided to focus a bit on how people style themselves for the event. Since it is near impossible for everyone to wear authentic 1920s apparel due to its rarity, delicate condition and cost, I love to see the alternative looks people come up with to capture the vibe of the Jazz Era. Of course, there are many women wearing the stereotypical fringed flapper costume. But there are also many who opt for something different and/or more imaginative. I also love seeing the gentlemen dressed up. And I did not notice one “20s gangster” in the crowd. Most men wore their versions of the “Jay Gatsby look” which is much more appropriate for a Roaring 20s summer lawn party!
This gal's loose silhouette flared hem dress with beaded neckline and cute hairstyle with band is a simple, elegant 20s inspired look.
As far as my own outfit, I was fortunate to have found a lovely semi sheer cotton voile floral print 20s dress in near flawless condition for the occasion. Underneath I wore a full black vintage slip. The dress ended up being lightweight and airy enough for such a hot summer day. Because there are pink flowers with touches of yellow, I wore my mustard and ivory T strap spectators by Chelsea Crew to go with the dress. They were low heeled and comfortable enough for walking on the grass. I pinned flowers on my straw cloche hat, wore a chain and pearl long necklace and pearl bracelet.
I adore the cape collar and the floaty ruffled tiers of this dress. It also has cute button details and is super comfy to wear. I’m not sure I’ll ever want to part with this one!
Have a glamorous Day!
