My Vintage Style- Outfit for a Classic Car Show

theresa-at-misselwood

Recently arrived in Boston and discovered I was just in time to check out the Misselwood Concours D’Elegance,  a top notch classic car show that is held just north of the city on the grounds of Endicott College in Beverly, Ma.

It’s a two day event with the first day consisting of the Tour D’Elegance,  where car owners complete a 50 mile drive through scenic towns on the north shore of Boston.  On day two the cars, many of which come from states all up and down the east coast,  are on display on the beautiful grounds of this  seaside campus.

Since I’m a big fan of 50s skirts,  I thought this event would be a perfect excuse for me to wear one of my favorites.  I love the black and white floral stripe on this skirt and how the fabric was cut so that the print created an interesting diagonal pattern.

I knew it would be sunny and pretty warm, so I grabbed my trusty wide brimmed straw hat to keep my head from baking and to shade my eyes.  Didn’t want to wear sunglasses while I was trying to take photos of the cars!  And then I tied a black and red silk print scarf around it to add some color.

I needed a bag that was big enough to stuff a bottle of water in, my phone, wallet and my camera, but not too large to lug around all day.  This red bag, with black  piping trim,  fit the bill nicely, especially since it matched my outfit so well.

I purchased it this past winter from a woman who sells at art and crafts shows in Florida and New Hampshire (where she is from).  Her company is called Nericcio Leathers and she makes these purses herself.  I prefer to support local craftspeople when I can and I found the quality of her purses to be as nice, if not nicer, than many imported designer handbags I’ve seen that sell for hundreds of dollars.

Made with beautiful buttery soft leather and her attention to detail is impeccable.  That gathering you can see in front, below the flap, is actually a storage pocket that is trimmed in black leather on the edge as well! And there is a pretty metal medallion accent on the flap with a snap closure underneath. There is a zip compartment on the outside of the back of the bag, adjustable strap and the interior has four separate storage areas, two of them zippered.

I’m seriously considering contacting her to see if she can make me this bag in other colors. That is how much I like it! Unfortunately she does not have an online catalog. So you can’t see all the other styles of  bags she makes. But if you’re ever in the area of any of her shows you should check out her booth. Her show schedule and contact number is on her web page.

Sorry to go all off topic. But I just really like this woman’s purses!  Anyway, it ended up being a gorgeous day, with a cool breeze off the water. I had a great time looking at all the beautiful vintage autos.  Bought some lunch from the bistro they had set up there and ate it sitting by the ocean. It was a splendid afternoon.  And one of the things I noticed immediately was how nicely dressed many of the attendees were. So refreshing to go to a public event and not see hordes of people in sweatpants, t-shirts, droopy baggy shorts and flip flops.

Here are some stylish ladies who were kind enough to let me take their pictures.

And here is a little slideshow I made of the event and some of my favorite cars.

Appreciate the compliment, dearest Jessica! I am drawn to black/white/red combos for some reason. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I have to make a conscious effort to wear other color combinations so I don’t get stuck in a color rut!

Ooohh, fabulous outfit! The classic marriage of red, white and black with a straw hat is as chic and timelessly stylish as they come.

Thanks! I love maxi skirts too, but I find I also like the flare of a 50s circle skirt and there are so many interesting prints. Not to mention, like maxis, they are still plenty long enough to hide my unsightly knees 🙂

Cute outfit. I usually wear maxi skirts. But I think I might have to give a 50s skirt a try!

It’s one of my fav color combinations in general, but thought it would be particularly fun for a car event. And seeing all the nicely dressed people amongst those fabulous vintage autos definitely made my day. Always enjoy seeing how other gals put together their outfits. 🙂

Thanks Vicki! I find that I do gravitate to that color combo quite often for some reason. That caddy is marvelous. Though I’m having a hard time choosing my favorite. I love all vintage cars so much 🙂

I love that other people were dressed up as well.

    The cars are incredible!

Love black, white and red color combination. And those cars are amazing. Think my favorite is the 1960 caddy!
